Surface Book wins the ‘Laptop of the Year’ award at T3 Awards

Unveiled in October 2015 for the first time, Microsoft Surface Book won the ‘Laptop of the Year’ award at the annual T3 Awards held in London, edging past a diverse portfolio of laptops and convertibles from traditional OEMs as well as the Apple MacBook.

Over the past 10 years, the T3 Awards are considered one of the most prestigious recognitions in the consumer tech industry.

The award citation for the ‘Laptop of the Year’ called it ‘a brave step forward by the Redmond company’ and hinted at excitement over whatever’s coming next with Surface Book 2. T3 chose to look past the premium price tag as well as the software issues that marred the Surface Book early on.

Unlike the Surface Pro series, the Surface Book sports a hard keyboard base, instead of a soft flexible Type Cover, with a stylish hinge to connect to the tablet – giving the Surface Book the ability to function as a traditional laptop as well as a tablet. The Surface-branded laptop by Microsoft surprised many at its launch, but is clearly an attempt to showcase the power and portability of Windows convertibles to its hardware partners.

Incidentally, earlier this year, the Surface Book was also crowned as the ‘Gadget/Hardware of the Year’ at the GeekWire Awards 2016.
