What do you do when your computer needs service?

I take care of and service a lot of computers for my customers.  Many of these I personally built.  It is rare for those customers to see me other than to buy another one.  Many of my new clients come in with store bought computer needing work.  They are the ones who tell of the nightmare experience dealing with so called customer support.  For many of my customers I handle all computer situations including in warranty repair for those “other” manufactures. 

I, unlike the typical computer user have a great deal of experience and knowledge when dealing with tech support.  Even so it is beyond reasonable what is required and the time and effort to get a satisfactory result is very elusive.  I am not able to always get a timely result even with my persistence.  It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s Dell, Apple, Lenovo, HP, they all make the process beyond difficult.

If you don’t have someone like me to help, do you just throw up your hands and buy a new computer?
